James Allen-Robertson joined the University of Essex in 2013 after working in an administrative position with the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge. Whilst with the Faculty he set up the Cambridge-INET Institute as its founding Administrator, and managed the faculty’s research grants and submission to REF 2014. James completed his BA in Sociology at the University of York in 2007. He went on to complete an MA in Social Research (2008) and his PhD (2011) funded by an ESRC 1+3 Studentship.
James is interested in studying our relationship with emerging technologies, with a particular focus on media materiality. He is also focusing his attention on Gaming Studies as well as the role of Algorithmic Agency and Software’s impact on everyday life. More broadly he is interested in digital culture, disruptive technologies, digital research methods and new media.
