Kate Powis is the Humanities Research Impact Officer at the University of Essex. She works with academics in the University’s Faculty of Humanities to support and advise their efforts to use their research to improve the world outside of academia. Kate worked for eleven years at St Helena Hospice, Colchester as a lecturer and researcher in the psycho-social aspects of palliative and end of life care, before joining the UK Data Archive at the University of Essex with responsibility for ethics and governance and qualitative data. She gained her MA in Human Rights at Essex before being funded by the ESRC for a 3+1 scheme, leading to a Masters in Social Research and her PhD looking at the experiences of people with life limiting illnesses. She has an ongoing interest in the role of the arts and humanities in health.
