Dr Elena Abrusci is a Senior Research Officer for the Human Rights, Big Data and Technology project (HRBDT) at the Human Rights Centre and School of Law, University of Essex (UK). She currently works on the impact of new technologies on human rights and the challenges to regulation, with a special focus on disinformation, misinformation and freedom of expression. She holds a PhD in Law from the University of Nottingham (UK) where she investigated the issue of fragmentation and convergence between regional human rights bodies. Elena also worked in the field of modern slavery, acting as a consultant for the WHO on migrant women’s exploitation and human trafficking and assisting Walk Free Foundation in the preparation of the Global Slavery Index. She published in leading human rights journals on issues related to international and regional human rights courts and on modern slavery.
