Dr Elena Abrusci was interviewed by BBC Radio Essex about misinformation and disinformation – commonly known as ‘fake news’.
Dr Abrusci talked about how disinformation has always existed, with early examples dating back to Ancient Roman times. However, it has significantly changed now and become a critical issue due to the way we access and consume information. She also explained how fake news is shared on social media and how targeting and profiling can mean we always see the same kind of information on the basis of our profile and behaviour online. Dr Abrusci also briefly discuss what steps we can take to spot fake news and what should be the way forward.
