On 27 February 2017, Paul Hunt and Carmel Williams led discussions on ‘The Role of Big Data in Universal Periodic Review Research’ at a workshop on ‘Big Data: Advancing Human Rights’ organised by the New Zealand Human Rights Commission. The workshop, which focused on the importance of human rights when using big data and the role of big data in holding the government to account for their human rights obligations, brought together predominantly policymakers from government agencies across various sectors in New Zealand, including statistics and health.
