On 7 March 2017, Lorna McGregor participated in a side event organised by Article 19 and co-sponsored by the Privacy in the Digital Age Core Group (Brazil, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) on ‘Head to Head or Hand in Hand? Privacy and Freedom of Expression’ at the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Lorna provided expertise on the human rights framework and challenges for the protection of rights such as privacy and freedom of expression and opinion in the big data era. She also spoke on the benefits and rights concerns that could arise from the use of big data, the changing role of States and companies for enforcing rights, and the critical need for a preventive approach beyond addressing rights issues retrospectively.
Please see here for more information on the side event.
