Submission to the Science and Technology Committee on Algorithms in Decision-Making

In April 2017, the Human Rights, Big Data and Technology Project made a submission to the Science and Technology Committee’s Inquiry on ‘Algorithms in Decision-Making’.

The submission explores the human rights implications of algorithmic decision-making and outlines the conditions under which discrimination may be introduced or amplified within the algorithmic decision-making process. The submission sets out recommendations on a range of topics including transparency and accountability, as well as suggesting possible ways in which the design, testing and assessment of algorithms can be regulated in order to address the potential for discrimination.
